We all have heard of the stories of how all the animals from birds, monkeys all the way up to Elephants fled the low water level areas and ran up hill to escape the Tsunami....

My Question: Have these animals returned ??????

If not, I wonder if there is a sixth-sense animal instint that they still feel or know..?

Any one know ??????

PS- What happen with the animals in the Tsunami also happen in the '64 Alaskan earthquake...So its not a phenonenom...

Many animals have senses that humans do not: bats have echolocation, birds can sense the earth's magnetism, elephants* can communicate subsonically. Since it is known that there are symbiotic relationships for defense in animals (baboons and, I think, zebras, are mixed at waterholes using the superior sight of one coupled with the superior hearing or sense of smell of the other), it isn't a stretch to believe that it only takes a few species to give a warning.

* The elephants could have heard the earthquake that caused the tsunami, as well as the sound of the oncoming water. They can communicate with each other subsonically for distances of 5 miles.

"The elephants started trumpeting -- in a way Dang, 36, and his wife Kulada, 24, said could only be described as crying -- at first light, about the time an earthquake measured at a magnitude of 9.0 cracked open the sea bed off Indonesia's Sumatra island.
"The elephants soon calmed down. But they started wailing again about an hour later and this time they could not be comforted despite their mahouts' attempts at reassurance." - TheModerateVoice.com (or http://www.typepad.com/t/trackback/1621522)
