I haven't posted before, so I don't know if this has already been talked about. I was wondering if anyone had information on this topic. I have cut myself before, but only on 2 occasions when I was extremely emotional and I didn't do it deep. I just want to read some material on self mutilation and I can't find too much. Thanks for your help!

Yo, Angelbaby, I also, like Tree, welcome you to our loving family here at Answerpool. I pulled up WebMD.com and found this:

WEBSITE: http://boards.ivillageshealth.com/ - click on "boards" then click on "mental health" then self-injury

It's suppose to give online help; I sincerely hope that it will help you.

Thanks, Tree, for calling out that website.
Angelbaby, if you want to talk with someone on the phone, try this:

Self-Abuse Hotline

SAFE (Self-Abuse Finally Ends) Alternative Information Line

Provides recorded information on dealing with self-abuse and self-mutilation and treatment options.

CALL: 1-800-DONT-CUT

It's a good number; just called myself.
Angelbaby, we do care.

hey, if you want to talk to someone about it, you can go ahead an either e-mail me or just post in here.

my husband used to cut himself really badly, so i have (almost) first hand experience with it, the feelings, etc.

and just a note, if you do email me, and i dont answer, im not being rude. my in box fills up rather quickly, and sometimes i dont get a few things.

Angelbaby, while I have no information to share that offers more than others here already have, I just wanted to add that your acknowledgement of what you have done as a bad thing and wanting to learn more about it shows a great maturity level and desire to overcome it. Kudos to you!!

Angel, you are so welcome here at the Pool. I am an RN, and if you want a shoulder to cry on, just click on my name and email me.

If you feel like cutting yourself, call those numbers and speak to your parents about getting you some help with a doctor... medications may help with the depression and anxiety you may be feeling.

She's not doing it anymore, she said she did it twice and doesn't plan on doing it anymore, how come everybody is acting like she is still doing it?

AND Jusork, a person may say they will never drink/cut/smoke again, but the underlying reasons also need to be dealt with (why it happened in the first place). Friends can be a support and help you identify and prevent those causes.

That's a good point Sherasi. It's been proven that people who evince one self-destructive behaviour are something like 200% more likely to show others, ie someone who cuts, and stops, is much more likely to try drugs or become anorexic.

09-02-03, 04:13 PM
Angelbaby619
are you implying that I may start drugs or become anorexic? Confused

self mutilation
No of course no one is implying that about you Angel. They are just saying in general on things here. Sometimes one thing if not treated can lead to another.

09-02-03, 07:43 PM
Sherasi
Absolutely NOT.

What we are saying, as stated by Sammy, is that people who have issues need to resolve these issues or it can lead to other problems.

For example, my depression has lead me to become overweight. I need to deal with my problems before trying to lose weight or else I may not effectively lose weight.

09-02-03, 08:27 PM
Angelbaby619
your right sherasi-a person has to deal with the issues first, and I have actually started to. I am seeing a counselor and have talked to him about the issues that lead me to cut, but never actually told him I cut. I think it helps though.

good first steps angel!

it can be very hard to tell someone that you did self mutilation, but from what ive seen, once you do, its like a weight has been lifted, and you can really start to heal.

I have alot of issuses to angel. My biggest one is not eating. So I have lost alot of weight and then that has effected my general health of course. Tho, i to go see a counsler and with the help of people on here I am doing somewhat better for now. Its not easy and most of us really do understand what you are going through without having to know your actual problems. So hang in there and trust the fact that we are all here for the same thing. Smile
