Hello
This is my first post, anyone else out there have or know someone with a gambling problem? My husband has one and now our lives are suffering. I feel like we should be on the Jerry Springer show. We started off as friends for about 3 years and then we feel in love,we dated and have now been married for 3 years. My husband and I are both in our 30's and live the average american life, decent jobs, nice house in the suburbs, 2 dogs (no kids) and wonderful family surronding us. The last year his problem became worse and worse to the point of us almost foreclosing on our house and worse than that he commited a crime/he stole money and was caught. This is a man who has the biggest heart out of anyone I know, he doesnt even have a ticket on his driving record and now he will more than likely have to go to a federal prison for a couple years. My life is litteraly turned upside down and I truely dont know how to handle the situation. Suprisingly enough our relationship has always been great and has survived thru this gambling problem of his and I hope it can survive whats to come.
any words of wisdom would be appreciated.
thank you
oh-and yes-he is currently going for help with GA

Hi - I'm originally from Reno, Nevada - in Nevada, Gambling Addictions are right up there with Alcoholism.

One thing that will definitely help HIM is your support...Compulsive Gambling is a disease, just like Alcoholism & Drug Addiction.

It would be really, really good if you went to GA meetings with him, it would help you to understand where this need comes from.

Often, Compulsive Gamblers do it for another reason - is there anything in his life that is not going well that he might be trying to escape from?

Although I got a handle on gaming at an early age having lived around it, my mom had a great saying..."Scared Money Never Wins"...usually, the compulsive gambler will chase the win (and never catch it) which is when it causes a problem.

I think the fact that he's already in GA is great...he recognizes that he's got a problem and is trying to deal with it.

summer, don't hesitate to email me (click on my profile) if you just need to talk....been there and done that, you know?
