I just recently found out my 25 year old son is addicted to oxycontin. He has a back problem and has been getting these from a doctor for about 3 months. Now he wants off of them. What is the best course of action to take and what should we expect? He does not want to go to drug rehab center. I can't believe these doctors who hand out this medicine every two weeks to people. This is a pain specialist he is going to. He has to pay 90.00 before he sees the doctor and then the doctor gave him a script for ativan and he had to pay an additional 15.00 for that. Also this doctor takes no checks or credit cards only cash. I think this is terrible. You and I both know that these doctors are just out to make money. He even had him do a drug test at a local hospital and my son forgot to sign the paper for the release of the results there so his doctor never even got the results and never said a word about it. What also can be done with these type of doctors is this leagel? This doctor is only in town for a day a week. I would appreciate any help anyone can give. Thank you.
i'm very sorry for your son's addiction. anytime a doctor is only in town for one day a week and won't take a check or credit card, something seem fishy. your son need to get another doctor. anything that you feel he has done illegally, you should talk to an attorney because a lot doctors are doing things illegally and think the patients are too dumb to know. your son might have to go to rehab though to really get unhooked. these are two kinds of pain meds that are habit forming---ultracet and ultram. i know people that are addicted to these, but they don't want to stop. they like the feeling. i feel sorry for them.
