Caffeine is a mild stimulant that has the effect of making you feel more awake and alert. A high dose may make you feel jittery and may prevent sleep. With very large doses of caffeine the user may experience the effect of odd noises and flashes of light. Any amount of caffeine will affect the users ability to sleep but the 'comedown', as with other stimulants, will be worse the larger the dose the user has taken. Stimulants also follow the law of 'what goes up must come down'.

Effects on the body can include increased heart rate and blood pressure, a need to pee and increased breathing.

So if someone doesn't mind those side affects, is it okay for them to have a lot of caffine?

I have never been a coffee drinker, but I love Pepsi. I switched to the caffeine free kind. I'm glad I did. When I was drinking regular Pepsi, it didn't bother me at all. I could sleep. I switched because I already have a nervous disposition and wanted to find out if the caffeine was having an effect on the anxiety I kept feeling.

I had headaches for about three days. I did drink some regular Pepsi to tame that. It wasn't hard to quit drinking at all. I noticed the digestive upsets I didn't even think were related stopped. Caffeine does upset the digestive tract. I did feel less hyper.

I don't really think it will hurt you given that you don't have any physical problems that it might interfere with or suffer from anxiety. Otherwise, make the switch. It isn't bad.

Sagus was drinking regular coke for a couple years by the case (he'd buy like 4-5 cases when they were on special and make stock-piles of it).

He found that he was irratable, less patient with the boys, hyper and generally anxious. He decided to see if stopping the caffeine would help and kicked the Coca Cola. Within a few days, he was almost a changed man, so he changed his habits and changed to other sorts of drinks such as juice and water.

Yafa - increased heart rate and an increased blood pressure can have very serious health risks - I hope you are kidding when you say if you don't mind those side effects. Do you remember what happened when you did not have the caffeine for a day or so? This is your body telling you that you are dependent on something and that is not a good thing.

Here's some sites to look at Yafa.

Caffeine Blues site

Caffeine Addiction

Causes depression, agitation, insomnia and loss of appetite

I quit drinking caffeine a year and a half ago. I was having headaches, depression, insomnia and anxiety... when I stopped so did these problems. I have not missed it at all and certainly don't feel less energetic.

Hope these sites make you consider the side affects a little more seriously...

I know this was an old topic, but I wanted to just share an experience I had with too much caffeine (Sherasi....no comments on my high test coffee either!)

When I worked 16 hour night shifts (an hour from home, translation: 24-30 hours without sleep) I would drink coffee the whole time, eat choc. covered coffee beans all night and then take a vivarin or two to stay awake for the drive home. I started having anxiety attacks and heart palpatations..even chest pain (I was 26-28 yrs old)

Not good! I don't think a little caffeine will hurt, lots of people drink coffee...but please be careful. If you start noticing your heart racing...cut back!

You must be a nurse Shelster. That's about the only profession I know of that actually does that and the employer couldn't care less if you are killing yourself.

I stopped anything with caffeine completely. You know, very much to my surprise, I felt so much better. These odd digestive problems, nothing that was a big deal, but they stopped completely. I didn't feel so anxious. I slept better. I felt all around better.
