I'm not sure where to post this. I'm guessing it belongs here, but forgive me if Tarot cards aren't a part of nature religions!

When I was a teenager, I had a deck of tarot cards. I distinctly remember that there was a Princess of Wands (that was my favorite card). I've since lost the deck. Recently on a whim, I bought a new deck of Tarot card (Tarot of Marseilles). I was surprised to find that there is no Princess of Wands. Why not? Which card on my new tarot would be the Princess of Wands?

Finally, as an aside question - does anyone know of a good website where I can begin to learn to use the tarot (it isn't easy for me to get books in English where I live, and I'd prefer to learn about this tradition in my native language if possible)?

Thanks!

Mind not all tarot have the same "characters" There is variation in the cards depending on the origin.

http://www.bluecatsden.com/hwp.html is from the Hermetic Tarot, Then there are.. Well hundreds of types of tarot decks.

Click here to see the many cards.

As for a good site on learning tarot: http://www.angelpaths.com/tarotjansguide.html

Actually there are several sites that deal with learning the Tarot:

http://www.learntarot.com/ is another, then you can try

http://web.ask.com/web?qsrc=69&q=Learn+Tarot&o=0 for a web search results.

I am uncertain if there is a "stand in card" for the Princess of Wands in your deck. You may want to shop around and find out what deck does have her in it and use that deck.

Cheers

David

Thanks for the great sites, David.

Aleia, sorry, I didn't make myself clear! My native language is English. That's why I'm looking for good websites about the tarot - I can't easily find a book about it in English here in Mexico. I almost bought a book on Tarot in Spanish, but then decided I'd just as soon read about it in English, and on top of that, I'd just as soon not spend the money on a book! Smile

David - my deck has four suits: clubs, coins, swords and cups. The "faces" on the suits are knights, pages, kings and queens. I'm guessing the page of clubs is the equivalent of the princess of wand, but the little booklet that came with my cards only describes the major arcana, not the suits, so I don't know what the different suits and face suits mean. So for all I know the meanings are completely different. I can't remember what the princess of wands stood for. Let me know if you have a take on it. For now, I'll start reading the great sites you sent me to see what I can figure out for myself.

Incidently, the major arcana on my deck is pretty similar to the one I had before if I remember correctly, but it has a female pope, which I don't remember having on the other one. I think the female pope is a very interesting idea, especially since according to my little booklet the Marseilles Tarot probably dates back to the middle ages. It's interesting to imagine what kind of power people in the middle ages would have ascribed to a female pope!

Yes The page of clubs would most likely (98% certainty) be it.

Perhaps you will find this site useful. I'm giving the link to the discussion on Princess of Wands, but the whole forum is quite good.
May you find all of your answers. Smile

Aleia - it looks like a great site for questions like this. The description of the Princess of Wands jogged my memory... it describes me to a "t" as I was as a teenager. I'm half sad and half relieved to realize that I've lost or buried some of those qualities and that card no longer seems to be a good signifier for me. Interesting though - I guess this is what is fun about tarot cards. Thanks! Smile
