Thank you frankvan.

"Beltane traditionally marked the arrival of summer in ancient times."
It certainly doesn't feel like the start of summer here today, but I like the thought. Happy Beltane. Smile

Beltane? I was up at 5 a.m. on May Day to watch the morris dancers [see link] at 5.30. They were dancing just after sunrise. We got 60 people (and four dogs) up here on the hills to watch the twelve morris men ('hills': I mean about 300 feet above sea level: this is Cambridgeshire, after all Big Grin)

Never heard of Beltane before. Around here, and in England generally, we call May 1st 'May Day ' plain and simple. By the way it drizzled throughout the dancing though it was sunny later.

Yep, that link pretty much covers it. Most of the pagan holidays have several names, May Day and Beltane are the same (just as Imbolc and Candlemas are the same).
It's finally starting to warm up here, and it does at last feel like spring is in full swing.

Thanks for the info page, and most of the christian holidays are taken from the earth based religions of old, even christmas but the date was changed.

Yep, a lot of current religions borrow from older religions, turning the old gods into devils (Cernunnos) or saints (Briget) of the new religion and usurping their holidays.
