Ordained is to appointed to a higher spiritual authority.

The laying on of hands by a bishop makes a deacon ordained and also ordains a priest. It takes at least three bishops to ordain a priest as a bishop. The clergy is the entire group of ordained members. The Reverend is an appropriate title to precede the full name of a priest or deacon.

See here for more information on The Reverend.

From a Pagan point of view, an Ordained Reverend is usually someone who is liscensed by whichever country s/he lives in to perform handfastings that are also legal marriages, so you do not have to go to the Registry Office seperately.

The answers are exactly right, a title , and ordained by some church, organization or society to perform rituals of ceremony to those who might ask.

I should point out that I am ordained by the Church of Spiritual Humanism. My proper title is Blessed Swami. (This is really true. If I send them $14.95, I could get a certificate suitable for framing. Honest!)

Actually, anyone can be ordained for the right amount of money sent to the right place. The Wiccan priestess who preformed my wedding ceremony was ordained by the Universal Life Church. However, just because you are legally ordained does not mean you are legally allowed to perform ceremonies in your state. You would have to check the state laws to ensure you fit the bill. For instance, New York required the person to have a "place of worship or gathering" or something like that. So my friend Matt couldn't just marry us -unless you count his dirty apartment as a place of worship (which I'm sure he did, but that was stretching it).
