Today is the sabbat of Lughnassadh, a celebration of the first harvest and a time to give thanks to the land for her bounty and beauty. It is a time to reflect on the gains made through the year and to harvest the seeds of dreams we planted earlier in the season. It is time to see your goals through to fruition. Symbols of the sabbat include grains, corn, berries, corn dollies and oak leaves. Colors are yellow, gold and green. Deities honored are harvest and grain deities, including Demeter/Ceres, and new mother goddesses, as well as Lugh himself. Themes of Lughnassadh involve community, money, providence, agriculture and manifestation.
With the moon waning in the fourth quarter, it is an excellent time to severe connections to unhealthy relationships, addictions or habits, as well as to reverse hexes and curses. A pagan might infuse a corn dolly with any attributes she wishes to do away with, and then burn the dolly and simultaneously rid herself of these attributes.
Blessed be and have a merry sabbat!
