I have a battery operated digital microscope that I wish to use in the field and record digital images/video directly on to a memory card or some similar device so that I may transfer the images to my PC when at home. The interface is USB.

I do not have a laptop. Is it possible that a video camcorder would do this or, is there a standalone card recorder that I can use?

What make/model of digital microscope are you using? My first suggestion would be to look at the microscopes website and see what they offer. They may have an optional attachment intended to copy the images files as you describe.

I don't know anything about microscopes, but I would assume that such a device would be available. I went to this example page to see what what offered. This particular microscope comes with image capture software, so if you can store the images on a flash drive type of device you could then later upload them to a computer for display. I'm thinking of something like a bridge device, as discussed here.

I hope this is of some help,
Dwight

Hi Dwight
First off, sorry for the delay I had to be sure I got the right equipment at the right price. Thanks to your well informed reply I have now ordered a Delkin USB Bridge (£4.99 compared to about £30.00 listed) and a new 2mB Flash Drive (£19).

BTW the microscope I have is from the Motic educational range and is equiped with a removable digital camera, less lense, that connects to my PC via a USB cable.

Once again many thanks
A B Steele
