I downloaded (uploaded??) some pictures to Arc Soft Photoimpressions from my digital camera as usual without any problem. Now when I want to look at them again, a message comes up saying they can't be found. Even though the thumbnails are still there I can't pull them up on the screen. In messing around trying to save the thumbnails to something more permanent, the message came up asking where I wanted to save them. A box opened with a list of options. I chose Programs. Now when I locate the file and try to open it, I get a message saying

[QUOTE]Windows cannot find Program.exe.
This Program is needed for opening files of type 'ABM File'. [QUOTE]

How do I get out of this mess and retreive the pictures? Are they lost for good?

An "ABM" file is: ABM Audio album file (HitPlayer)

This link will provide some additional information about this file type: ABM file extension

Are you familiar with file extensions? File extensions are the (usually) three letters following the period mark in a file name. For example: in the file name "story.wpd" the .wpd portion of the file name is the file extension for "Word Perfect Document". This file type would generally open automatically in the WordPerfect word processing program.

More about file extensions.

In your situation, I believe that you saved your pictures in the.ABM format. If that is correct, then you would need a program capable of reading .ABM file formats to view the photos.

One thing you can do is do a search for "*.ABM" files. This would locate any .ABM formatted files on your system. The "Star" or "asterisk" oart if the file extension makes this a "wildcard" search, meaning it will search any file name with the .ABM extension.

If you're able to open the image, you can do a "print screen" to save the image in a more useful format, like .jpg or .bmp. This page will explain how to do the "Print Screen" procedure.

I hope this will help!

Thank you, Dwight. Good to see you back again. I was able to do the procedure you suggested but since I only have thumbnails to work with, by the time they are enlarged to a reasonable size they are unrecognizable. I will try to pass them to PHoto Plus 4 and see if I can improve the resolution but I expect that I forgot to save these pictures and now they are lost. Pictures that we downloaded from the camera before and after these pictures were taken are O.K.
