I just purchased a new Kodak V1253 digital camera and a SD memory. I inserted the card in my computer Toshiba A70 satellite and it said found new hardware after a few moments i took it out and now I realize I should not have done that because now nothing happens and all I have is an icon to safely remove the card. I cannot see my pictures with the card. I used to have a Sony cibershot and I inserted the card and it opened right up. What can I do to fix the mess I just did. Thank you sure hope someone can help me out.
You will see C:\ drive, D:\ drive and perhaps others.
Then insert your new card and note what drive is added to the list. Take note of the card's address...K:\ drive, J:\ drive or so forth.
That drive will be you new SD card. Open it, then open any folders that you see. You may have to open 2 or 3 folders but you should be able to see any pictures that may be on the card.
When you have seen the pictures or copied them over to your hard drive, you can open the "Safely remove hardware" option and stop that drive.
When you see the "you can now safely remove the device", remove the card and then close the Hardware removal window.
If this doesn't solve the problem, let us know.

I tried what you said and all I see is C and D drives and when I click on D drive I insert the card and there is a icon in my task bar near the clock on right hand lower corner that says safely remove hardware and in my computer no other drive except C & D
Because you don't see another drive and you see no change when the card is inserted, I think the software for the drive has been damaged and needs to be reinstalled.
See this picture Note, if the picture is to small to read, click on it to enlarge.
Reinstall SD Card Reader Device
Right click on My Computer Choose Properties Click Hardware Click the Device Manager button Under Disk drives, locate your SD Card Reader Device Right click on it Choose uninstall OK any confirmation dialog boxes Restart the computer The restart should automatically reinstall the SD Card Reader device. Try your card again using the My Computer windows as described above.
I hope this helps, but if not, please post again.

I did what you said and it was reinstalled and I stioll do not see changes in my computer when I insert the card but near the time on the right hand side there is a small icon and it says safely remove hardware in drive E but nowhere do I see drive E
What was the device drive letter or identification that you uninstalled? It most likely reinstalled under the same name.
Try right clicking the My Computer icon and choosing "Explore".
When it is open, look for any entry in the left pane that could be related to your SD Card Reader. The makers of these devices will sometimes assign a name to the device making it easier to find, but if you don't know to look for it, you will often miss seeing it.
If it did in fact reinstall, and if the card itself is not damaged and is properly inserted, you should be able to see it.

The memory card is called secure digital_MMC_Drive when I go to properties in my computer and click on device manager and the disk drive this is what it says. It also says it is working properly. I dont know what else to do.
I uninstalled and reinstalled and the device still does not show up on my computer. If I go to device manager and my card is in I cans see Secure Digital _MMC_ drive but cannot see it in the same window as I see my C & D drives. Boy oh Boy what a problem.
This is quite unusual. From what you're saying, I think there is some problem with the Operating System rather than with the device.
Would you be willing to allow me to connect online with your computer and run some tests? You can install the http://gotomypc.com software for free for 45 days if you use the link to the ad-cast shown on my page for Stephanie Miller.
Once the software is installed, I will need to know your email address and the password/authorization code that you choose.
I want to thank you for your offer but I will decline, it is not as if I cannot get my pictures at all, all I have too do is plug in the camera with the usb cable and I can see them. I just preferred only inserting the card it was much quicker, but will get used to doing it this way and when I get back home I will take my computer and have it checked since it is still on guarantee. Thank you for your help with all of my problems you always succeeded in getting things working properlyfor me. Once again thank you.
Now I am being told my card reader software has to be updated is that so? how can I tell which card reader I have. I made a search and all it says is 5 in 1 card reader.
