I am trying to transfer video from my SONY DCR-IP55 to my computer.. I have an HP A1130N, if that helps any. I have a 4 to 4 pin firewire cable and firewire ports on my computer.. anyone have any suggestions on what to do?

I don't see where the Sony camcorder has a firewire port installed. I do see a provision for a USB connection. If your computer was a Sony Vaio, there is a provision for using a Sony-ilink cable but I believe that will only work with the Sony Vaio computer. This is explained here. But I don't think that will help, since your computer is not a Sony Vaio.

You should have received a CD with your camera that includes connection software, or at the very least instructions about the Sony driver download site.

Unfortunately, the SONY DCR-IP55 camera uses Sony's tiny, proprietary MicroMV videotapes, which are incompatible with nearly all video-editing programs--a big drawback. Sony's own video editor, MovieShaker 3.1, ships free with the camera. It's a decent entry-level editor but will disappoint serious videographers.

The MicroMV system uses its own proprietary video file format, which is based on MPEG-2 but is not exactly the same. As of this writing, only one major video-editing program--Pinnacle Studio 8.0--supports the MicroMV format.

Sony has also announced a EZ Editor package for MicroMV. Previously the company had announced such packages for MiniDV and Digital8 camcorders. Doing so now doubles the number of programs you can edit MicroMV footage with - certainly an improvement. The kit will sell for $100.
