I was just reading some old posts, and came across a very brief mention of Latin Jazz. Adding my opinion, but in new thread, I want to say that probably my favorite Latin Jazz was Stan Getz's work with Jobim. I was a kid when that came out, but I could "see" what he was playing, the beach, the carnival, everything. So many people don't know what Jazz is, thinking it is just "some music played fast" that has no hook. There is so much the should hear.

Well .. guys .. i've been playing the guitar for seven years .. and as a matter of fact .. i couldn't find something more interesting than latinjazz to play .. i've been working with my band and trying to compose new pieces .. and u are right .. the percussion adds alot to this kinda amazing music
Nice to see you drop in, So Unreal! Yes, and with a good Latin band where the percussionists have really thought about their various rhythms the whole thing becomes electrically charged. Not surprising that the Rio Carnivals go on for days! (or so I have heard...). And of course Latin jazz rarely 'swings' in the true sense of the word, relying for its marvellous effect on the subtle complexities of its internal rhythms...great stuff!

Latin Jazz is one of the most fun to write for, it has it's strict rules, but you can still play around. It's different than other jazz because it has a certain sound, yet it's amazing how diverse you can make the underlying sounds within the expected outcome.
