Not wholly relevant to DG's John Coltrane post, so let me start anew. When I was in Washington D.C. a couple of years ago, I went to see a fine mural of Duke Ellington opposite a theatre where he'd played lots. Fairly central (walkable from the Mall, certainly, though a couple of kilometres I'd say) but tell me - where is that mural, and what is the name of the theatre? It's famous, yes, but the name escapes me now.

Ellington Mural PictureG. Byron Peck created this tribute to Shaw's most widely known resident. The 24 by 32 foot rendering of Duke Ellington watches over the community, directly above the U Street/Cardoza metro stop at 13th and U Streets, welcoming all to experience the rich history of the neighborhood. The painting was commissioned by local businesses and the Mobile Oil Corporation. Peck hired student painters through DC's summer jobs program and completed the mural in 1997.
