What is a potentially embarrassing feature of the national anthems of two of the member states of the European Union?

Are you referring to the fact that IRFU banned "God Save the Queen" at internationals played in Belfast. At the same time the Irish Republic's national anthem, "Amhrán na bhFiann" is retained (not least out of respect for the presence of the Irish head of state) in Dublin?

The article on it.

No. Nothing to do with Britain.

Perhaps 'confusing' would be a better word than 'embarrassing' though there could be some embarrassment, methinks, sometimes. The two countries concerned are both in northern Europe

Well, the answer is that Finland's national anthem and that of Estonia have the same tune. (Couldn't think of a better wording for the question Roll Eyes )

That's interesting, Fred. Finnish, Estonian, and Hnugarian are related and, together, are almost language isolates in Europe. They are related to a few very-little used languages in Europe, but are not part of the Indo-European family of languages. (They're part of the Finno-Ugric languages.)

(My mother spoke Hungarian. Her father was born in Hungary, and her mother, as near as I can tell, was conceived in Budapest, but born in New Jersey. [Don't tell Sailracer!] Roll Eyes )
