A pleasing story: The founder Mr/Herr Steinway had made 482 pianos by the time he decided to form a company. The first one made under the Company's name was numbered 48 3. Wny the interest in Steinways? Are you thinking of a career on the concert platform? The machine is a pain to play (I'm reliably informed by a friend who does have to play them) but Steinway secured contracts with all the big halls and so every aspiring pianist had to learn the instrument's peculiarities. My friend had to have one, from her 'earliest days', for that very reason. Neat business, eh? Nowadays you see a lot of Yamahas.Yamahas must of got a bigger supply of money ! Apparently, the connoisseur keeps a Bosendorfer. One virtuoso kept a Steinway in his penthouse, for regular use, but had a Bosendorfer on a dais there, with a cord rope around it. That was for special guests' and his own personal use
