It was Dee-Dee Sharp who made the "Mashed Potato" dance famous in the 60's with her song of the same name. There are not too many tunes that one can dance the 'mashed potato' to (Gravy, Dear Lady Twist, and Monster Mash come to mind), but there is another such song that was done by the group called The Beatles (remember them?, they weren't particularly into the mashed potato scene). Can you name it??

Kellygirl, you are quite correct. The Beatles borrowed the tune from the original hit by the Marvelettes.....but it was Dee Dee Sharp who started the "Mashed Potato" dance a short time later after the Marvelettes recording, then everyone started doing the dance to 'Mr. Postman' as well as "Dear Lady Twist", and , yes, I do remember the Freddie, had forgotten all about it until you mentioned it. And Mx2, Dee Dee did unassumingly team up with Chubby Checker to do the tune "Slow Twisting". But the smash hit 'The Twist" was all Chubby.
