According to members of the Memphis Mafia, what were the last two songs sung by Elvis before his death?

The last song Elvis played was "Unchained Melody" on his piano at the racquetball
court near Graceland, just a few hours before collapsing. Don't know whether he sang as he played tho....

Blue Eyes Cryin' in the Rain is the other one. This is according to Dick Gobe (sp), Elvis' Graceland security chief.

Yes, I read today in TV guide that Elvis played "Blue eyes crying in the rain" on the piano the morning of Aug. 16, 1977.

Teeceeum - I've heard that "Blue Eyes" was based on an old Croatian song. (I have heard it sung in a Slavic language.) Do you know anything about that ?

DG, the song was written by Fred Rose in 1945. Fred and Roy Acuff formed Acuff Rose Music in the early 60s (I believe) in Nashville. Acuff Rose was the first major music publisher here and most song writers here were affiliated with them at one time or another.

I met Fred Rose once. I have no idea if he was of Croatian descent or displayed Croatian tendencies or if he was even aware what Croatia was. He may have thought it was some modified form of knitting.

I didn't even know Elvis could play the piano. Was he a very good pianist or did he 'get by'? Please don't let 'Rose Tinted Spectacles' affect any replies!

K.K.
I don't know about his piano playing but he hardly ever actually played any of the Expensive custom made Gibson Jumbo Guitars when he was on stage or in the movies. He could chord, but he did not play at the level of the musicians he had in his band.

On a side note, I used to work with a guy who was a childhood friend of Elvis, and he has pictures of himself and Elvis from "before the King" He told me, that even after he got back from the Army, when he was at home, he would play football in the streets with his old buddies. Also Elvis had a ranch somewhere in Tennessee, I think, and my friend and Elvis were under some new trailer houses Elvis bought, hooking up the plumbing in the freezing cold and mud, together, so Elvis' ranch hands would have water in their homes.
He says that Elvis was a regular guy, and the fame never changed that. When he saw him, he was always the same old kid from Tupelo. My friend never would give Elvis the credit he held with the rest of the world, as the King of rock and roll, but let anyone say anything bad about Elvis, and he was on it!

Teeceeum - I'm sorry- I wouldn't have asked had I known that someone from your lovely state had written the song. That, of course precludes copying it, which, I believe, requires reading on the part of the person doing the copying.

(I am reminded of the character 'Chef' played by Frederick Forrest in "Apocalypse Now." Upon reaching the boat safely after running from a tiger, he screamed, "I didn't graduate from 8th grade for this!")
Cheers ! - DG
