Who composed a huge hit for a Country singer that was originally a B side yet was re-released as an A side The odd thing being their vocal ranges were the total opposites the composer being a Tenor(with distinctive high ended climaxes) the Singer being just above a Bass...Cannot imagine him singing this...unless there is a demo disk somewhere? The composer also had many hits of his own and was the first person to take a Rolling Stones song into the US charts predating the Stones first official entry into the Charts by 6 months Ps He was one of the first singers to make use of Multitrack recording and he had a #1 in the 80's with a reworking of one of his hits. Who is he?

I am quite a fan of Gene Pitney and remember reading somewhere about him being friends with Jagger and Richards and I think they shared the same publicist.
