I believe it was Roberta Flack ("The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" in 1972 and "Killing Me Softly with His Song" in 1973). (She was also the first solo black artist to win in one of the top catagories).

U-2 accomplished this later, with "Beautiful Day" in 2000 and "Walk On" in 2001).
