I did not like protein based diets although they work well for some, didn't work for me. Carbohydrates increase your blood sugars when the sugars are used up your body craves more, that's when you feel hungry. Protein diets curb the hungry feeling by eliminating the sugar rush. So you do not feel hungry and your body uses stored fat and protein for energy rather than sugar. One of the advantages to a protein diets is there is rarely flatulence after the first week. A common problem with high carb diets. But, after a few weeks on the diet I felt that my bowels didn't move as they should. I wouldn't go potty for almost a week so my middle felt heavy all the time. Increased exercise did not help. I am not one to take medications unless I have to so taking a laxative daily was simply out of the question. I also know that our brains require carbohydrates to function properly. I found this out after talking with my 'workout guru.' I was feeling like I could not recall things as quickly after a few weeks on the diet. He told me that my body needed carbs in order to run properly. He was right. I got off the diet and now I am back to normal. Smile.
