Why is it that hospital scales make me 8 lbs. heavier than my friendly bathroom scale? All right, less clothing and shoes (absent in home weighings), 6 lbs heavier? Which scale is accurate?

Scales have different weights because as they are used, they lose their accuracy... and are not usually recalibrated.

What you need to do is to follow a TREND on one scale... so that your weight loss/gain is tracked. You really need a pattern more than accuracy.

I've also noticed how I weigh more on the scales at the doctor's office, and I weigh with my clothes on at home, as well. Frown

The scale and I don't like each other very much. I'm having a calibration problem with my scale. My bathroom downstairs is square. I have to shove it under the pedistal sink or it will be in the way. I grab it with my foot and push it towards me. I hit one of the calibration things doing that. Now I can't get it right.

I can only state that if it isn't working and doesn't have a warranty, you might need to purchase a new one.

There are two wheel like things in order to calibrate the scale. One moves the numbers to what weight you find to be correct. The other wheel will move to zero so the scale looks right.

I was kicking this thing back and forth with my toes and hit the wheel that calibrated the scale. I just don't know how to get it right now beyond guessing at accuracy. I put a roast on it, but I don't know if that weighs enough to be accurate. Now it's all screwed up.

I just replaced my digital scale. It is such a beauty as far as scales go. My last one I really liked. It was as much glass as possible and didn't look ugly. I replaced the battery that went dead and it wouldn't reset as it should have. To get rid of that problem, I got a traditional scale that can be reset and is mechanical. Again, it's wood, stainless steel and glass. It is completely sharp looking.

I paid a fortune to get one that looks nice rather than something to ugly up the house. It is very nice quality. I just don't know how to get it set right is all, but it does work correctly. It has everything to get it set accurately. What is accurate??? That is my scale problem.

My other scale problem is the fact that I gained too much weight! Only a broken scale will ever like me...Sad, but true!

well, maybe you can get a 5 pound bag of unopened sugar and use it to calibrate the scale.

Oh, we are really getting ripped off here. The old five pound bags of sugar are now only four pounds, but the same price! My stupid roast was heavier than that. I'm not sure the scale is real accurate with small weight as opposed to the weight of a person.

I'm looking for something like a big bag of dog food, but I took in a 14" dog that wants to eat everything we do! She is such a table scrap hound. My lab would do so much better than this with her dog food, but she died. I took in this Pit Bull thinking she was a mutt. The only thing this fighting dog is agressive about is getting a bite of what people are eating! How's that for the dangerous harboring of an attack dog?? Lol @ that one!

Yeah, well WF, Lacie can be pretty aggressive too! Eek.. she'll try to crawl into the lap of Dustin (my oldest son who is MOST LIKELY to drop the food by accident because of his C.P.!!) and try to interrupt the "drop cycle" BEFORE IT DROPS! Eek Roll Eyes

(We have to kennel Lacie during meals.. we are still in the training stage)

Weighing yourself isn't really teh most accurate way to see the results of dieting. Most dieting experts will tell you to go by the fit of your clothes.

But if you do weigh yourself, like Sherasi says, always use the same scale.

As for the scale in the doctors' offices, they are never right! I just don't look Wink

I have a Tanita digital scale and it is always the same as the doctor's office. It even calculates body fat. Exactly right. Frown Wink
