I have to be able to run 2 miles by the time I move to the college where I'm going to on a softball scholarship. The thing is, I can't run 2 miles w/out stopping! And I have a feeling it's going to take me a LONG time to build up to this. I'm in shape, VERY much so, it's just, really nobody in my family has much endurance. I about die after one mile. Does anybody know of a good way to build myself up to that two mile mark w/out completely KILLING myself to do so? =c) I'd appreciate it! Thanx! email me please.

I am in really good shape myself, but I HATE running. When I was is school I had to run long distance for track. I hated it, but I had to build up to the mile marks. Each time you run, go a little further and before you know it you'll be going to whole two miles. If you try and do it all at once, you'll just discourage yourself and get overwhelmed. Do it slowly, you'll get there.
Good luck!!!!

Though endurance is something that can be built up to, you have to first make certain your body can build up that endurance to that thing.

Diet is a very important part of exercise, if one suffers, so does the other. This too may be an issue and you do not know it.

Cross training is usually very helpful in building up endurance for long runs, there are plenty books on the subject of jogging and running and cross training with these two forms of exercise in mind.

Go to the libray, see what kind of books you can find on the subjecxt of physical fitness and diet. Make a doctors appointment, see what s/he has to say on the matter as well.

Cheers

David

I once had to prep for a physical endurance test. DvdGStwrt had a good answer...diet. I found that protein shakes seemed to help, you also need lung power, dont smoke. Any chance that the nose strips that athletes use will help your breathing? The "sugar blues" were part of what was holding me back. I don't know all the facts about sugar but by reducing my "refined" sugar intake to practically nothing I no longer had the sudden tired feeling that caused me to lag. Also, try counting, over & over to keep a rhythm.

Good Gains and Good Luck!

I'm guessing "refined" sugar is the sugar you get from things like candy and sweets?

Right, refined sugar is the stuff that is processed from corn, sugar beets or cane. The book SUGAR BLUES was written quite a few years ago and I dont know if any of it is outdated but it was good advise for me. a bit of the book here

Like the author, Mr Duffy says, try to get your sweets from pure honey (never give to children below age 4, they can get severe bacterial infections) and fruits. Cooked carrots worked for me. After I got a lot of the refined sugar out of my system, they tasted very sweet.
Good luck
