We bought a Wii gaming system about 3 weeks ago and I can already feel a difference in my lower body muscle tone and in my upper body range of motion from all the bowling, golf and baseball... The Boxing training games are a great aerobic cycle and it's all so much fun that you hardly realize you're working out....
The Wii Fit (which I only got yesterday- my hubby loves me) is an amazing system... it walks you through a variety of tests designed to analyze your body, your needs and your strengths then guides you through setting goals and offers a wide range of activities to help reach towards those goals while tracking your progress.... There are yoga, aerobic, strength & balance excercises for all fitness and skill levels and as you progress, more activities become available to you.... (I've already begun cussing my "trainer"... "keep it up- use your core muscles to stabilize your body" she says... Easy for you to say you animated bimbo!:blah:... it's great fun and very motivating)
My ONLY criticisms are A} The balance board is hard and some people, like me, might find it a little painful to stand on.... but a cushy neoprene sleeve is available cheap that should resolve that issue... I'll be off to buy one tomorrow
B} The program is terribly "chatty", repeating the same very basic information and directions often enough that it's a hair annoying... it may be that as I progress, it repeats itself less, I've found that to be true of the games, so it may also be true of the Fit programs... I'll let you know how that goes

If it works for you I have no problems with it... for you.
Personally I prefer pulling weeds, mowing lawn, trimming the shrubs, walking - God I miss camping and hiking... ya know the old school way to get your exercises.
I hear that kids are being put on this box and made to exercise - in some ways I think that is why Wii exists. (sigh) I still recall when kids were tossed outside during day light hours and allowed to play in traffic, play on railroad tracks and play with yard jarts - Ah the good old days.... LOL

I'm looking forward to Spring, when I can start getting more active outside but I don't deal well with the cold, average temp here has been in the teens, so for me, outdoor activities are currently on an "Only as needed" basis. (I do wonder sometimes why I agreed to move to a place where double digits below zero is a reality)
And Yes, Wii was developed partly in answer to the fact that children seem not to go out and play anymore (I was a kick the can champion and a "sniper" at flashlight tag).
It IS tragic that so many kids know nothing of the joys of outdoor play, and no gaming system can make up for that loss, but at least the Wii system encourages some physical activity.... and the Fit balance board is a fascinating piece of technology.

Yeah, there aren't a whole lot of options for winter exercise in the frozen north... Indoor exercise tapes or games are better than couch-sitting exercises. Luckily, it might finally actually reach 40° today!

Be warned! The coach to the French national rugby team barred his squad from using these devices. Why? Because he himself had just suffered a severe sprain in using one
