I heard that drinking coffee regularly can cause you to get wrinkles or dark circles under your eyes. Is it true? And what is it in coffee that can cause these things?

I read a few articles on the internet... none of them really REPUTABLE sites, but they all say that the antioxidants in coffee PREVENTS wrinkles.

I've been drinking coffee since I was 10 years old (30 years now). I do not have dark circles or wrinkles. As a matter of fact, my skin is my best feature.

Sun exposure is the biggest cause of damaged skin (wrinkles) followed by cigarette smoking and over consumption of alcohol.

Coffee drinking isn't the best vice in the world, but it's certainly not the worst.

Well I've been an avid sun worshipper, smoker, and coffee drinker for 20 plus years. Plus I have a highly expressive face that used in acting for 10 years. I am 39....and don't have the first wrinkle (except for a few fine lines on my forehead). I truely believe that wrinkles are genetically predisposed. You're either gonna have them at an early age...or you're not.

Well coffee can be a factor in causing wrinkles, actually. It comes down to free radicals - harmful chemicals which can create havoc in body tissues if they aren't dealt with.

Normally the activity of the free radicals is counteracted by enzymes produced in the body. However, with age or as a result of an unhealthy lifestyle, the production of these enzymes slows down, allowing chemcials and other toxic waste to build up in the tissues. Changes then occur which can adversely affect the protein fibres in the skin - the effects can be deepening lines, wrinkles, creases, sagging contours and crepiness.

Free radicals are caused (amongst other things) by sunlight, cigarette smoke, alcohol, coffee, drugs, illness, prolonged stress, an unbalanced diet which includes lots of sweets, fats, chocloate and junk foods.

But as long as you are sensible and do everything in moderation, it's not all bad news. If you drink twice as much water as you do coffeee, you'll really help to counteract those nasty old toxins.
