Periodically, I notice that my hands are shaking. Even with a conscious effort, when my hands are shaking there is nothing I can do to steady them. It gets terribly visible when I'm hungry, but I notice it sometimes even when I'm not hungry. Now, I'm not quite 30 yet, so it seems like I'm a little young for such a problem. What could be causing this? I put this under "nutrition" because I suspect it is something I'm missing in my diet (although I try to eat well). Any ideas?

I am a borderline diabetic, and I sometimes get shakes like that when I haven't eaten for a while (together with getting really cranky- though I don't notice the second, one, jsut those around me that I take it out on Smile ). It could be a dip in your bloodsugar levels.

I have tremors in my hands, it sometimes becomes visible when I don't eat enough or when I've had caffeine, my doctor said it was caused by a hyperactive thyroid.

Thanks, Silja and MrsBlackiston. As I said, it is most visible if I'm hungry, but I also notice that I shake more if I've had a cup of coffee, so maybe it is related to my thyroid. Did your doctor think that was any particular problem or make any recommendations for you to change your diet?

It could also be blood sugar - type 1 diabetes is in my family (although I'm sure I'm not diabetic, I suppose I could have some slighter blood sugar problems). Of course, I never get cranky! Wink What changes would I need to make to keep my blood sugar from getting low?
