We have all seen these ads. Promising easy weight loss. What steps should be taken before an ad is allowed to run??? And what penalties should be levied if these guidelines are not met???

I'm surprised these ads have run as long as they have!
I would have thought all the companies would have been sued by now!

But have you ever noticed:
Many of the ads (not all, of course) for weight loss pills, techniques, etc. say in the fine print that you should follow a sensible diet and get exercise.
Duh!
If you do that, you're gonna lose weight anyway!
But that way, the product gets all the credit!
What a racket!

As for ads in the tabloids -
I guess they figure the ads shouldn't be anymore credible than the stories! roll eyes

Personally, I don't think anyone needs to step in and regulate... It's just yet another excuse to sue - and we could all use a break from these frivolous law suits !
It's like TIE said - those ads have tiny print at the bottom saying to use the product WITH diet and exercise.

I think people need to be responsible for THEMSELVES for a change. If you buy a battery operated gadget that says it will turn your 25 pound overweighted beer gut into 6 pack abs in 2 weeks... You need to ask yourself "Is this possible?" If you buy it and 2 weeks go by and you still look the same - it's your stupid fault for believing it in the first place.

Don't any of these people remember the "If it's too good to be true" saying....
