I have been on a diet for the last few months. The diet has little or no sugar. I noticed the other day when I went to a school reunion (20 yrs shhhhh) that after I politely took a very small piece of cake, when I came home I felt like I was starving. I am eating right. I do not normally feel like that. My diet is 1200 calories, and I feel fine most of the time. So my question is... Can sugar cause you to feel hungry?

Yes, in fact I think was a purposeful invention, probably a plot to get us to buy more, eat more and gain more. I know that whenever I eat anything thing full of 'empty calories' I get powerfully hungry soon after, and usually what I'm powerfully hungry for is more candy!
you are right in that you felt hungry soon after. the carbs you had were simple carbs which break down faster. making you hungry again, Complex carbs and fats break down slower making us feel satisfied longer. Try some fruit for your sweets. It is not just sweets that get you it is the amout of processed foods we eat today. When you go to the grocery store just go around the perimiter that is where the fresh stuff is, the aisles are the processed stuff. Remember if it is white it is not right. As in flour and suger.

I have the same thing happen when I'm dieting. I am fine until I have a pretzel or a bagel and then I'm hungry. I guess it's the carbs in breads that hit me hardest.
