Well I just got back from the bone doctor, its official my right knee has Patella Tendinitis and patellar spurring. (Tendous inflamation which could, if left untreated lead to a ruptured tendon - not pretty I imagine the Spurring is my freind Authur Itis paying me a little more of a visit)

I will not be able to go to PT until my HMO clears it (About 2 weeks) One of the suggestions the doctor gave was to lose weight. (along with get new shoes with good soles, heat, Motrin and keeping the knee elevated when it hurts).

Yes I have gained 15-20 during the past year since I have not been able to work as hard and workout harder. I have forgone the cardio workout because bike is painful - forget about jogging and running.

I'm certain that some of that muscle turned to fat, so I probably can shave off up to 25 pounds of fat.

So in order to lose weight, I need to do a cardio. My diet is fine, its the lack of exercise which is adding the pounds.

Any suggestions on what cardio exercises I can do that will not further the Patella Tendinitis?

Both doctors (Primary and Bone) couldn't suggest a cardio workout that would not require the knee.

Any suggestions?

David

David, I Searched for seated cardio workouts.. to prevent the need for using your knees at all.

I found quite a bit of information .. many geared to cardio wheelchair bound exercise, which would be ideal for your needs, but you have to buy videos.. and I am not sure if you can afford to buy them.

As for just losing weight, I lost 160 pounds without exercising by simply altering how I ate (but did not go on a strict diet, I just reduced my caloric intake).

Of course I don't eat perfectly every day, but I do eat well (low fat, no added sugar) and I believe I eat in moderate portions.

My body was used to a lot of work and the workouts too. When this knee started acting up I started slowing down - then I started gaining weight.

I stopped taking on big hard jobs that required a lot of manual labor - Not only that but I'm approaching middle age. My doctor told me that my metabolism is slowing down and that I would have to exercise more to maintain my weight.

So I do need an exercise program. Video, well depends on if it is worth it - if you know what I mean.
