I was making my sandwich this morning and my loaf of bread has a hole through a few of the pieces. Nothing abnormal, this is very common with bread, but it piqued my curiosity because I realized I don't know why bread gets holes.
Why does bread get holes?

You know when the baker kneads the bread and punches it, it is to get large air bubbles out of the raising. Sometimes this is not effective because of the shape of the bread at the time it is done, and since it is machine performed probably it isn't quite as thorough as a person might be.

Thanks, Sher. Again, that's pretty much what I figured. Leave it to technological "advancements" to take the quality out of the work.
