Has anyone ever used this product? Is it worth the hefty price tag?

We ripped up the carpeting in the living room in anticipation of installing floating hardwood flooring.

The builders, had applied an extra 1/4 inch ridge of cement at one wall of the living room - obviously to make the walls etc level. Upon installing the carpet, it wasn't noticable. Today we tried to correct it with some flooring cement, but when you put the level down - in some areas - it's still not quite level.

Did they think we'd NEVER get rid of that ugly carpeting? Sheesh!

If anyone's had any experience with it... please let me know what you think of it.

Thank you.

Hi Tree,

We use self leveling latex/Gifcrete all the time. It is a good product to solve those nasty floor level problems. Be sure that you buy the liquid latex to mix with it even though it says that you can substitute water. The latex additive gives the product more strength to resist breaking apart and will likely make the application process a bit easier to control.

Not sure what products are available in your area but we use Leinweber Self leveling Gifcrete with Latex milk added to it.

I'd say definitely worth the money to have your floor be flat and as level as possible. Make sure you don't exceed the recommended thicknesses in each application and let each application dry completely before pouring on top. If you exceed the thicknesses then you will have a non-drying goopy mess on your hands and you'll be scraping the stuff out.

One more thing... I'm not sure where you are buying from but the price should not be too much. You might try calling a local contract supply company if the prices you are getting from a Home Depot type place are out of control.

Thanks ami! We did use the product, but I guess we were a tad short of it.. therefore, had to use more flooring cement... and NOW this should be the second and LAST bag of self-levelling stuff. YIKES!

I certainly appreciate your comments, as you seem very knowledgeable in this area! Smile
