I know that if you lose your opener you can buy a new one and change the code in it to match the big one attached to the door, but can you change the code in the main unit? We had our car stolen and the opener was in the car, along with some unsent mail with our address on them. Thanks!

kitty sorry to hear about your car. What was the manufacturer and model number for the opener? Each model is different and has different features for the programming of the code. Some will not be possible to change, but I don't know where to start without that info. Some can be changed as seen here but may depend on your model: Door reset

What you should do in the meantime to secure your home is to pull the manual release to disengage the drive from your door and then turn the manual locking handle on your door to keep it from being opened. The most important thing is to keep them out!

Hi Kitty:
As Kwll mentions, we need the make & model
of your opener. Each is a bit differnt.
Below is the procedure for a Craftsman model:

Go the the back of your motor unit and you will find a green button near where all those white wires go. Press and hold that button in for 6 seconds. Now nothing is going to work except your wall button. You have erased the memory of your receiver. Press the button on one of your remotes and then press and immediately release the button on the rear of the motor unit. That remote will now work. Do this with all your remotes.

Best of luck.
