I'm redoing my fireplace and am putting in a mantel. What are some really great things you have seen on mantels. I don't want to just put picture frames on there.

Antiques...all kinds of things. Pick up things that strike your fancy, anything interesting. you could get an old checkers board and prop it up, or old wooden toys....all kinds of neat stuff. I wish I had a mantel like that!

Decorators call them "Found Items"....I call it "Random Stuff".....a seashell, interesting old bottles, odd bits of glass art or pottery, a few loose chess pieces, the pretty rock you found on a hike...whatever is not flammable and has meaning to you.

We used to put on Antique Candelabra, candles, pottery, earthenware, antiques, books.
