Where can I find an instructional DVD which would include basic mechanics, various tools and electricity concepts? I would like it to include belts, pulleys, gears, basic circuitry, relays, switches, Ohm's law and other concepts.

I already have excellent books on basic mechanics. I am looking for a hands on classroom DVD with instructor demonstrations. I really need the visual to see how the techniques and concepts are applied. (I learn best that way)

Clarebear, I've looked all over and I can not find a thing.

I just think I will have to produce something like that to fill the need.

I would suggest you try your local high school adult education class for some of their programs. I have taught at a few and they were pretty good.

At least if you have a problem, they are there to answer your questions.

I'm with you. I learn best by doing it for myself.

You can come work with me for a week or two and answer all your questions.

Physics site

This site is pretty neat - there is a section that is multimedia and they have movies illustrating basic principles.

This covers basic physics which whereas it seems you are interested in Applied Mechanics, but entering Applied mechanics into a google search will return results that are too specifically college level to include basic video illustrations of this type.

I found many sites entering "Basic physics pulley DVD" into a search but only college level textbook references when putting in "Applied Mechanics DVD" into the search.

WOW: I really don't have time to take a class right now. Why don't you just come on over and show me what I need. Wink I have a test in a few weeks for work and I really need a refresher. Smile

Ami: That is a fantastic site and I will check it out. Thanks for taking the time to find it. Smile

I have some fantastic books. I really need to watch how some principles are applied. I did find one site called Expert Village. It is free but I'm not real thrilled with all of the mechanical instructions. If you happen to find any sites like this please let me know. I also tried you tube but that is a hard site to navigate. There is a bunch of junk on there. I do appreciate both of you looking. I did find a pay site called total vid which I may consider signing up for. I took physics in college and got an A. I'm looking for more info on general maintenance skills.

Have you tried the site: http://www.howstuffworks.com

It will often provide good in depth answers to specific questions.

As an example, try searching for: torque converter

Good luck with your test!

Thanks Dwight. I will check it out! I need to know how stuff works. Smile

WOW

Just a tip for when you go to Frankenmuth. Don't get off at exit 136 where the sign says exit to Frankenmuth. Go up to exit 144 otherwise you will be on the slow service drive all the way! Birch Run/Frankenmuth exit 136 (shopping outlet mall)is still 7 miles away from Frankenmuth. If you stop at Birch Run, get back on I-75. Smile

Also if you want Zenders chicken (Frankenmuth famous chicken) don't go to the Zehnders restaurant for it. Its way over priced. They sell the same chicken at the gas station/ restaurant on the service drive. I think its called Friars (or something like that). Also, don't forget to stop in Bronners the Christmas store. Smile
