I was at Home Depot and seen that they have a peel and stick stained glass for windows, has anyone tried it? Does it look as good from the outside as it does the inside? We have side panels on either side of the front door and I am sick of the curtain panels that I now have and woulsd love stained glass but can't really afford it so I was wondering how real this looks. Thanks! ************************************************************** 04-16-05, 06:10 PM eeyore77137 I'm not familiar with the peel and stick stained glass, but I have used Liquid Rainbow paints to create a stained glass look. I have doen mostly vases and window clings, but I have seen beautiful patterns to do a whole window. It is very easy to use and looks very nice.
04-16-05, 07:33 PM Tree OMG, kitty! I was also at Home Depot today and saw the same thing! I loved the flowered one! They had a demo there and it looked FABULOUS!
Hmmm - was it "peel and stick"? That's how observant I am! Frown I know it was a thin film, and I suppose that's how you'd do it - since the size of the window determined how many of these items you'd buy - so that makes sense.
They WERE nice and I would have bought one if I had a small window to decorate with it. I wonder how it would wear - as far as the sun?
OMG! I just found the ones that I saw today.. It was the "Orchid" one that I really liked!
04-17-05, 05:50 AM gizmogram Those are VERY pretty - but what if you have to clean the window? Wouldn't the film deteriorate from solvents such a window cleaner?
I love the orchid one, as well as the Wisteria!
04-17-05, 02:06 PM kittypal OMG, I didn't see a demonstration done, just the boxes sitting there....In our house either the wisteria or genoa would probably be best...I told my brother about them because they have a couple of odd sized windows on either side of their fireplace and he went and got it so as soon as he puts it up I will let you know. I will have to ask him what it says on the box about wear and cleaning, with the cats always pressing their noses on the windows I need to wipe them frequently. Thanks for the link!!! Smile
04-17-05, 02:45 PM Tree About cleaning... I found this on that site:
"Ultraviolet inhibitors are manufactured into the substrate to assure the product's longevity and to help protect the interior of a home or office against U.V. exposure. It is unaffected by interior condensation and normal temperature fluctuations and it is easily cleaned with mild soap and water. Artscape also provides an insulating factor. Artscape's manufacturing process is very unique and carries a patent pending status."
Let us know how your brother's looks! Smile
04-18-05, 07:39 AM Lydia Don't bother!!! My parents tried it - it was pretty easy to size it to the window, it peeled and stuck pretty easily, but they end up with these little bubbles in it that you REALLY can't get out. It doesn't look all that bad, but far more trouble than it's worth. They ended up fussing with it for quite a while, then gave up and got rid of it!!
04-18-05, 10:00 AM Walks On Water I don’t know if this peal and stick is anything like the peal and stick material I use on the graphics for my race car but here are a couple of tricks to get the bubbles out.
First, spray the area where you are going to stick the material with water with a few drops of dish soap. This keeps it from sticking on first contact. This allows you reposition at will. When you have it where you want it, start at the center and work the water and any air bubbles towards the edges with a hard rubber or plastic squeegee. Now you may wonder how good it will stick. All the graphics on my race car are holding quite well and I get up to 100mph.
Next, if you find a bubble later, just poke it with a pin and work the air/water out the pin hole. Then re-squeegee to make sure it has good contact.
If later you decide to remove them, and they have not been on to long, just heat the area with a hair drier and pull off.
I hope this helps someone.
04-18-05, 11:02 PM Tree Thanks WOW.. those are the instructions given at the site!
I think they certainly have some potential!
(still waiting for kitty's reply! Wink)
04-19-05, 10:59 AM Walks On Water Sorry Tree, I did not read the site first.
04-19-05, 06:25 PM kittypal I personally haven't seen it yet (will next week) but my brother said it does look like real stained glass from the outside as well as the inside...he said he'd do ours when I get it because he is really good at hanging wall paper and said this is similar, that yes there were bubbles, but he got them all smoothed out. They are really happy with the results and saved a ton of money since they didn't have to get real stained glass windows.
