I am intermittently losing 50% of power in the house. Yes, half of the house goes dark. Not related to any appliance or light, and no circuit breaker is being tripped. Sometimes this lasts for just a second but sometimes for an hour before power comes back on. I had utility check outside and they did replace somthing they said was somewhat corroded but no help. I have switched cartridge fuses at master of 220 but same problem occurs. Recently replaced ceiling fixture and could not find a ground in box but that works ok. Any suggestions?

Poorpapa:

You appear to have an open line on your 240-volt power. Are you capable of opening the panel. YES; NO.

If you have a voltmeter check each 240 volt line to ground. If you get an open on either line, you have a problem still with the buss wires from the power company.

By panel do you mean where cartridge fuses are? If so then yes, I am capable. Will try this.

Could the problem be in the fuses themselves?
Swapping a Low amp fuse for a High amp? Roll Eyes They'll blow when the circuit load rises Frown but will be warm or Hot to touch when not blowing Eek Do check this out make sure the right value fuse goes into the right sockets (Turn the power off first! Wink)
NOTE If the fuses are arranged with a High amp Fuse in a Low amperage circuit then the wiring is at risk (this in effect becomes the fuse!) Mad
And the Utility People should have started their investigation Here Red Face
Not doing their job right! Mad Or miles from home have to do this job fast ! Eek
