When I got my 2nd phone line for my internet access, I hooked it up myself.

The phone box on the outside of your house probably has the ability for up to four lines.

The screws are color coded. String your phone line to that box first. Then, carefully strip the white outer lining until you see the four colored lines within. The colors will tell you which screw to attach that particular line to.

Then, strip each of those lines to expose the inner wires. Attach to the right screws within the box and tighten the screw.

Good luck! cool

Hi Johnny, This will be for a another phone number, a line for the puter only. Do I have to snake a another wire up through the attic and the walls like the other line is wired ? I do want this connection right next to the other. Thanks !

JerseyTomater:

Before you can do anything to the interior wiring, you have to get the telephone company to install another line to your house with another number.

The telephone company will bring the new telephone line into the interior of the house usually in the basement at a terminal block.

Then you can take it from there to wherever you want it in the house. I assume you want it near your computer.

Like donald..... stated, the phone company will have to bring in the 2nd number up to your terminal block. I have it easy, since all my phone lines and tv cable run in my crawlspace(under my house). I added my 2nd phone line(same number) for my computer very easily. Hope this helps.

What Johnny Velo is saying & what I am saying is TWO different things.

He is merely stating that he added another EXTENSION off of the existing line he has.

What I am trying to tell you is that you have to have the Telephone Company bring in a NEW line with a NEW Number to give you TWO different Telephone Numbers. One line for local calls. The other line strictly for your Computer.

This second number will cost you somwhere in the neighborhood of $25.00 extra per month

Below is a quick sketch of the wireing for your second phone jack.
Make sure you have the 4 wire cable going to the NID (See dixie's link)
and that the yellow & black wires are connected to LINE 2 there.

Hope this helps
