I have a Whirlpool refridgerator that has the ice and water in the door. For some reason, when you push the lever for the water, you have to hold it in for almost a minute before any water comes out. It used to never do this. Can anyone tell me why?
Thanks,
Twinhearts

twinhearts, sorry this is late, but as moderator I like to give others a chance to reply first.

While I really can not walk on water, let me take a stab at you problem.

First, while I do not know your brand and model, this will kinda generic.

Most refrigerator water and ice dispensers use an electrical switch to make the call for water or ice. When you press your button to call for water, this completes a circuit and activates a solenoid valve allowing the water to flow.

Most ice/water combos have an inline water filter some where in the water line from the refrigerator to the water source. This could even be a part of your refrigerator. If you have not changed it lately, this may be your problem as this could slow down the water valve opening and cause a delay in your water.

Next, there could be a little dirt in this valve causing it to operate slowly. It can not be easily cleaned and should be replaced.

Both of these remedies are fairly easy if you handy with mechanics, plumbing and tools. Sorry I can not be more specific.

As always, when working with anything electrical, unplug and turn off before starting repairs. Remember, I am not there to see what is happening and these are just educated guesses.

If you need more help, please include make and model number. This is located on a plate just inside the refrigerator secton on most regfrigerators.

Also, and this is just a thought, depending on the age of the refridgerator and the 'hardness' of your water, there may be a build up of lime deposits in the feeder lines.

Thanks for the answers.
I can check the filter myself. If that's not the problem, I'll have to call in reinforcements.

Thanks again,
Twinhearts
