I am currently living in a 20 year old single wide trailer. I occasionally call it my boxcar. It just seems to be drafty and falling apart everywhere, or it was anyway. We have replaced most of the flooring, apparently there was a lot of water damage from a busted water heater and a major storm/leak in the roof. Replaced the inner and outer walls in the back of the trailer because of mold / water damage. The walls of the living room have also been replaced, thanks to the leaky roof. Recovered the roof with white sheetmetal, now that there is a 2 foot overhang the water doesnt come down the walls...and in the house. When we put the walls back up we used a little thicker insulation than originally used.

This trailer is only about 20 years old, is it normal for this thing to feel like it is about to fall apart? I have never lived in a trailer house so I don't know whats normal, but this is pathetic. We are only paying the cost my father has put into it for repairs 5000.00 and the 1500.00 he bought it for (from family), so it seemed like a good deal. We are only going to be here another 1 1/2 years, while my hubby is deployed, so buying a house isnt a good idea, and I didnt want to waste money on rent. But this is getting to be annoying.

We can't keep half the house warm / cool, and when the wind blows hard outside we can feel drafts all through the house, under the tub, ALL the windows.....

So is this just how it is when trailers are about 20 years old? Any suggestions on making it more energy efficient? I am considering some window treatments that keep out the sunlight, kind of like tint. I really don't like the aluminum foil look, not to mention when the wind blows they aluminum makes lots of noise, thats how i first noticed there was obviously air getting in through the windows. But how do I go about keeping the wind outside the house, I don't want to replace the windows. I don't know how to do it and I think I have used up my fair share of family construction help.

Also, the doors look like if you give them a good kick they'd come right open. Well the doors themselves are pretty sturdy, but mabey its the frame... I don't know, just doesnt feel real secure, any suggestions?
