You know those light switches that control wall outlets...we tape them in the ON position if there's a clock or phone plugged into the wall. OK, tape's ugly. Several years ago we bought small clear plastic pieces that would keep the switch in position. They were held in place using one of the existing screws on the switch plate.

We moved cross country last year and have another house with the same situation. The previous owners even left the tape on one switch.

I've found toggle switch locks, little doors that cover the switch and a whole switch plate that locks - but not the simple ones.

Not at Home Depot or Lowe's. Not in three of those great little catalogs like Miles Kimball. Not on Do It Best Hardware site.

Help! Thanks!

Probably the easiest thing to do is to remove the switch altogether and have the outlet be unswitched. It shouldn't be very difficult and then you can just put a blank cover over the switch. Or put the switch back on but just leave it disconnected.

Does that seem like something you could manage? I believe you should be able to just splice the wires rather than terminating them at the switch.

But to answer your original question, I've never seen any switch locks for residential switches.

I have seen just what you're looking for. But now that someone is asking, I can't find where I saw it. I thought it was a clever idea.

I thought it was "Carol Wright or Taylor Gifts" but I looked on line and can't find it.

I will keep looking.

I personally re-wired my outlets so the bottom one was on the switch and the top one was hot all the time. This allows me to turn on the light at the door while leaving the other outlet on all the time. Of course this is my trade so I was able to do it at a low cost.

I like Georgia's better then mine. Thank You.Smile The one I saw was just a plastic box the you put over the switch using one of the screws.

I will be ordering a several of these for people who "Accidentally" bump their furnace switch off and call me in the middle of the night clamming no heat.

Thanks. I've seen one of those but it's not what we're looking for. Ours were clear plastic, less than two inches long, with a notch to hold the switch.

My husband could do the wiring if he had to, but we'd rather find the little plastic things. We'll keep looking.

Ok, here is something smaller but still not exactly what you are describing. But maybe closer? Switch Covers, hard plastic cover snaps-on over a switch.

I found them! Stopped in at a little DoItBest Hardware store and they found them in the online catalog. I had looked there but was using the wrong noun. I asked for light switch lock and they're listed in the catalog as switchlock. Thanks for all your suggestions.

Wow, that doesn't look anything like the ones I found. But if that's what you wanted I am so glad you found it. Smile
