What are some really good brands of Washer and Dryers? Are there any brands that I need to avoid?

As the repairer of ours, we have had real good luck with Sear's Kenmore. Our first lasted over 20 years with a few low buck repairs and only replaced it because we moved and did not want to move the "Old" one to the new house. Bought another Kenmore.

I think I replaced timer once and one time the wife washed a bathroom rug that really blocked up the self cleaning lint trap. Had to tear the sucker apart to clear it. It WAS NOT from the dirt in the rug. It kinda fell apart.

If I am not mistaken, Kenmore was and may still be made by Whirlpool. The parts where interchangeable. So I guess both would be the same.

Happy Shopping. Tell them Answerpool sent you.

I have a Hotpoint washer and dryer I inherited from my mother. She bought them in 1982, but I doubt she ever actually used them. (She did a lot of hand-washing.)
I got them in 1988 and have used them ever since!
In the last few months, the dryer has started a rhythmic screeching (probably a belt). Understandable considering its age.
Other than that, no problems whatsoever! Smile

I'm with WoW on the Kenmore - Mom & dad got the Heavy Duty washer and dryer back in 1968, they moved with us from Illinois to Reno in 1974, and when mom moved in 1978 I got them.

Had to have the bearings in the washer drum replaced once (cause I did too many heavy loads Roll Eyes ), but aside from that, I never had any problem.

When I sold my mobile home in 1998 I had to let them go with it - However, they're still there and still going strong, 35 years later. Not a bad investment!
