We are getting bids for tearing out and replacing the concrete floor in the basement. It is all cracked and uneven.

One contractor said they would put fiberglass mesh in the concrete and one contractor said they would put rebar.

What are the pros and cons of rebar as opposed to fiberglass mesh?

Here's what I know about fiberglass mesh.

I just had a large parking lot put in at my building and they used fiberglass. It was not a mesh but chopped up strands about 2 inches long. This is cheaper then rebar and wire mesh.

Down side is that there are a lot and I do mean a lot of these strands sticking out of the cement.

When I asked him about it, he stated the they would ware away. A year gas gone by and the strands are gone where there is a lot of traffic.

In a basement, I don't think you will get a lot of traffic. If you are going to cove this, then it might be all right.

Check with other contractors. Check with cememt suppliers.

I just found out that there is a fiberglass mesh. Just be sure of what you are getting.
