All of the woodwork in my house is colonial beige. I love it and it really goes with my decor. However, I want to paint my bedroom a deep sailor blue and paint the chairrail and all of the woodwork and doors in the bedroom a bright white. Do I only paint the side of the door that faces into the bedroom white? If I paint the outside of the door, it won't match any of the other woodwork in the hall. However, when the door is opened into the room during the day, the beige won't match the rest of the woodwork in the bedroom. This has been driving me nuts. Do I have to just keep the beige and forget about the white? Thanks for any advice.

The general rule is to paint each side of a door to match the room it faces when closed. The edge of the door containing the latch is painted to match the room to which it opens. The hinge edge is painted to match the other room. But if the door is kept open all the time, only occasionally closed, then why not paint the outer side to match the room it opens to. The choice is really yours (there is no color police), what makes you the most comfortable?
