Hi,
I remember seeing a gizmo that you can install in your dryer vent hose that would direct some of the heat back into the room. Does anyone have one? Do they work? Where can I get one? I have a basement like a refrigerator!!!!

Yes, had one. Yes, they do put heat back in the house. Dumped mine.

Have two Major draw backs.

1) As they put heat in your basement/house, it also puts a lot of humidity. Weigh a load before putting them in the drier. Weigh after they dry. Remember that water weighs about 8.3 lbs per gal. That's how much water a load will put in your house durring that dring cycle.

You house needs this moisture in the winter, however it will put so much in your cold basement that it will make it damp and my damage items stored down there. It will also promote the growth of molds and mildew on you exterior walls.

2)Remember that lint trap. It does not get it all. Some will get through and you house will be dustier. If you don't beleive me, look outside where you drier vents.

All this is not to say they are good or not good in all cases. Someplaces the work fine.

Try it if you like, but I would advise against it.

Chickegirl:

If your basement is chilly a better way to remedy the problem:

If you have a furnace in the basement, have a
furnace installer come out & install a few more grates in the duct works to warm up the basement.

That's a better way to get warmth that using a moisture laden dryer vent.
