I am torn between trying to remove the old wood paneling from my walls or trying to plaster and paint over it. I truly dislike the paneling, but have to do the work myself and think tearing it off would be too much trouble. The room is 16 x 18. Any suggestions! THanks

my mother in law painted right over the paneling. She didn't even plaster over it first. Of course, hers was the type that had grooves so it gave it some texture.
Just a thought.

You can drywall right over the paneling. You just screw the board on, tape the seams, mud. sand and paint. Brand new walls! If you don't know how to do this, many home improvement stores give free classes on how to install drywall. If you don't want to do it yourself you could always get some estimates. It may run you a couple hundred dollars but it may be worth it.
You could just put up textured wallpaper until you decide to drywall. (bandaid) Keep in mind that for all that trouble you might as well just do it the way you really want the first time. Shelly made a good suggestion about the paint too. They even sell textured paints if your wall isn't textured. Let us know what you decided to do.
Good Luck!

I have painted over paneling many times and have never had a problem. I did no sanding or any other kind of prep. It had always turned out beautiful. If you have grooves in the paneling it just adds to the look. Just do it, I think you will like it.
