I’m having a problem with my electric dryer. (Five-year-old Maytag)
What should the ohm reading be across the thermostat?
I opened it up and found a wire completely burnt through connecting to the lower thermostat. I want to see if it is dead.
Should I just buy another thermostat? (I replaced the same one two years ago)
Or is there something else I can check? (on/off, door switches seem fine)

Thank you.

Koz54:

A good thermostat as you discribe should have an ohm reading of ZERO ohms when at a tempature below what it is set at.

If the connector & wire that are going to the thermostat are burned you'll have to cut the wire back a little ways and crimp on a new terminal (Usually spade type in this application)

Oh Yea ! Make Sure You Unplug dryer before doing any work inside !! eek
