I know there are various remedies for Black Mold on a Roof, however I also hear these remedies can shorten the life of the roof. I personally believe leaving a live organism to multiply and spread has to lead to further damage and health issues. I live in NE Florida. Any help?

There is a very common black mildew or moss that appears on roofs and is totally harmless but unsightly. If this is the mold that you are asking about then there is a simple solution. First a bleach solution or a mildew remover. Then install zinc strips along the ridge line of the roof which will prevent the mold from growing. The reaction of water washing over the zinc strips prevents mildew from growing. There is a chance that it is the bad kind of mold and the way you can tell the difference is that the normal roof mildew will be black but not slimey.
"Black mold" grows in wet and closed environments and "black mold" is indeed toxic and will cause structural damage if not remedied, but somehow I don't think this is what you are dealing with. If it is, please clarify and I'll give you more information.

Thanks everyone!! It is the common type and a bleach solution does take care of it. One of the small costs of living in paradise. Sure beats shoveling that white stuff.
Thanks again
