hello this is stacy. i have a very old, very valuable antuque oriental carpet (plus a few other less valuable & less old ones) that is in need of both cleaning and some restoration work, can anyone recommend a reliable place to do it?(Los Angeles and surrounding areas)
I have a few friends who were in the rug and textiles trade and can offer you two Southern California names.... www.blatchfords.com/ They're in San Diego. I've seen quite a lot of their cleaning work and two of their repairs, all lovely, no fading, no loosening of knots, fringe smooth and nap even.
www.antiquerugcompany.com They're in Los Angeles, on LaCienega. I have no firsthand experience with them but have heard wonderful things and they've stayed in a very competitive business for 25 years, so I'd be inclined to speak with them if it were MY treasure.
Whomever you choose to complete the work, be sure they are properly accredited and in good standing with the Better Business Bureau. Better to put off the work until you've found the right company than to risk having it done badly... restoration AFTER a bad cleaning or shoddy repair is far more costly and less successful than getting it done right the first time.

To compensate for the lack of U.S. drywall and wallboard when constructing new homes during Florida's housing boom a few years ago, contractors resorted to importing Chinese drywall. This drywall has been linked to an odor of rotten eggs and to health disorders like irritated eyes, breathing difficulty, bloody noses and headaches. This defect has affected hundreds of homeowners in Florida, primarily in homes built in the last five years. If you think your home is built of defective Chinese drywall, please contact my law firm, Dewey, Cheatham, & Howe
