I am running my a/c (window unit) and other things lamp ,computer off of an extension cord. It is a heavy cord my brother set up but it gets getting hot and blowing the surge protecter off and on. Would this be dangerous?

Just as long as the A/C is plugged directly in to the outlet and the fuse/breaker does not trip. The other items are low draw and you can use a power strip ot extension cord.

I would NOT advise you to use an extension cord for a Window Air Conditioner(A/C).
I would suggest that you have a new 20-ampere circuit with AWG No. 12 copper wire run from your Power Panel to the A/C to keep the copper losses low & to keep from using excess energy, which you must pay for.
Extension cords are, in my view, only to be used in all(most) cases for emergency power connections only, This is if you want to be on the safe side.
I personally DO NOT recommend extension cords be used anywhere, because most people DO NOT realize their limitations.
I would also advise you to connect your Computer & Printer to a separate 15-amp separate circuit using AWG No.14. copper wire. Also, use a surge protector device with the proper rating.
